We have continuously refined and developed our courses, as well as adding over 20 new ones, in order to make sure we’re offering the best aesthetic training available in the UK. Our ethos at Cosmetic Courses is experience, quality and success. This runs through the heart of all our teaching for doctors. Our passion is to make the aesthetics industry a safer place by providing delegates with high quality training from our vastly experienced and skilled trainers led by clinical director and internationally recognised, Mr Adrian Richards.

From experience, we understand that doctors thrives in different learning environments. We therefore believe that flexibility is key and help our doctors and other delegates in the most beneficial way in order to become safe practitioners. Our medical aesthetics training offers over 27 CPD certified practical courses to doctors, included Botox and Filler courses, our OFQUAL regulated Level 7 Certificate and Eduqual accreditation Level 4. These training courses for doctors is a great place to kickstart your career in aesthetics, providing real practice and teaching you how to build a career for yourself.

The cosmetic industry is continuously evolving and growing, with new minimally invasive procedures being discovered and more aware awareness of non-surgical treatment becoming more widespread. This makes now a great time to begin investing in new acquired skills with our expert team and beginning your career as an aesthetic nurse.

Botox and Filler Foundation Training Course
What qualifications do you need to train in Botox?

At Cosmetic Courses, we only train medical professions, including surgeons, doctors, dentists and nurses in Botox and Filler treatments. We do not train beauty therapists in these treatments. Many of these delegates have gone on to set up highly successful aesthetic clinics. All qualified doctors with a registered GMC, or equivalent if you are an overseas doctors, are able to attend our Botox and Dermal Filler courses.

Cosmetic Courses also offers a number of medical aesthetics training options to overseas doctors who hold a current registration with an equivalent governing body that ensures you are able to attend our Botox training for doctors. Please note, however, we would only be able to certify doctors to practice in the country that they are registered in. We offer a bespoke course package which includes chosen courses for doctors over the space of a couple of days or weeks (depending on your time constraints). Due to our team of expert aesthetic trainers, as well as a dedicated team of course co-ordinators, we are able to offer doctors extremely flexible dates for these bespoke training botox courses for doctors. We also understand that doctors may be travelling a long way to receive their aesthetic training and so we ensure that every step of training is hassle-free. We arrange doctors and delegates with live models for the practical hands-on training and also recommend places to stay in the local area and activities to do in order to make the most of your time here. This is a great option for doctors who are not from the UK and are looking to train at a highly respected training institution.

We also acknowledge that in the current climate many doctors will be interested in online, digital learning. We, therefore, now offer doctors a a number of online learning options through our Online Academy which offers presentations, videos from industry experts, live demonstrations, business support and assessment to test doctors knowledge on aesthetics. On successful completion of these online training modules, delegates will receive a certificate of completion. If you are a doctor or other medical delegate looking for remote learning option, this is a great option for you.

We have also had a lot of interest in our VTCT and JCCP regulated Level 7 Diplomabut a common question that we hear from our delegates and doctors considering this route is:

“Is it true that I will need to have a Level 7 qualification by 2018 to practice Botox and dermal fillers in the UK?”

The Level 7 Qualification is a necessary movement towards a more standardised level of training for doctors and medical practitioners considering a career in aesthetic medicine or those who are wanting to gain more formal recognition of their skills. The Level 7 Qualification, however, is not mandatory for doctors. At present, there is no legal requirement for doctors to hold a Level 7 Qualification in order to practice Botox and Dermal Fillers or any non-surgical aesthetic treatments for that matter. Although the Department of Health strongly support the recommendations that have been provided by Health Education England (HEE), the Government have not accepted the case for statutory and mandatory regulation in the non-surgical aesthetic sector.

Doctors who don’t complete the Level 7 Qualification, will still be able to continue their aesthetic practice as normal. However, it is worth considering that most major stakeholders, including leading insurance providers, independent training establishments and pharmaceutical companies amongst others, are supporting this movement. In addition to this, doctors who would like to be registered with the JCCP as a cosmetic practitioner, will have to provide evidence that they have completed or are working towards an accredited Level 7 Qualification.

Our Level 7 Qualification has been developed using a multi-faceted approach to learning to suit all doctors and academic styles, with a personal approach. It involves a combination of online learning, clinical observations, practical hands-on, mentoring and assessments to provide doctors with 277 hours of comprehensive learning. And if you are a delegate who has already started practicing in aesthetics, we provide pathways for you to achieve your Level 7 Qualification through recognition of your prior learning. If you are a doctor interested in our Level 7 Training for doctors, or have any questions about the medical aesthetics industry, please call us on the number: 01844 390110.

Botox training for Doctors
Should Botox be done by a doctor?

Although there is not yet legislations in the UK to prevent non-medical professionals from providing medical cosmetic, the general consensus in the aesthetic medicine industry, and the entire medical sector, is that injectable treatments, such as Botox, should only be performed by highly qualified and experienced medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses and dentists. It is also likely that regulations to prevent non-medical professionals, such as beauty therapists, from performing injectables, will be introduced in the near future. At Cosmetic Courses, we train surgeons, doctors, dentists and nurses in Botox and Filler treatments. Botulinum Toxin A (Botox), however, is a prescription only medicine (POM) and so only prescribing medical professionals can prescribe and administer Botox. Following on from training, many non-prescribing nurses work alongside other medical professionals, such as doctors, who will provide face to face consultations with the patients prior to administering the treatment.

Previous aesthetics practitioners who have trained with Cosmetic Courses have cited the following benefits of attending our training botox courses for doctors and working in the thriving medical aesthetics industry:

Less regulation

Many doctors tell us they are frustrated by the regulation and inability to change things whilst working in NHS. Doctors in the non-surgical aesthetics industry, therefore, enjoy making decisions about which Botox and dermal filler products to use as well as preferred techniques and treatments for administering them to patients. These doctors had chosen to get into the aesthetic industry in order to take control of their career.

The ability to control your own destiny

In the non-surgical Cosmetics Industry, doctors can be their own boss and choose their working hours. The aesthetic career for is very flexible to doctors particular needs and lifestyle. Many doctors on our medical aesthetics Botox training have said this is important to them.

Sufficient time with your patients

Cosmetic Courses delegates who are hospital doctors or GPs often complain that their patient contact time is so limited they cannot give the ideal care to each patient. The pace of non-surgical treatments is generally much slower (on average 35-40 minutes per patient). Aesthetic practice also allows doctors to build a rapport with your patients during initial consultations. Doctors can enjoy the increased patient time which cosmetics offers, leading to an improvement in the standards of care through this extended time with each patient.

Financial benefits

The remuneration from a successful aesthetic medicine package exceeds that of the NHS. Many doctors training at Cosmetic Courses go on to develop very successful businesses. As detailed below, the potential profit on non-surgical treatments, such as Botox and Dermal Fillers, are considerable, especially when the time taken to perform these treatments is relatively short. A Botox treatment by doctors can take as little as 15 minutes and a Dermal Filler treatment can take only 30-45 minutes. Training in Botox and other aesthetic treatments, therefore, can allow doctors to either supplement their supplement income from NHS medicine, if they want to stay in this profession, or to pursue a much more lucrative aesthetic career. The increased incomes doctors have achieved through medical aesthetics treatments allow them to reduce their working hours and spend more time on social activities or marketing their business.

A standard 3 area female Botox treatment

  • Costs doctors an average £100
  • Depending on your area and expertise, doctors could charge around £250-£350
  • A potential 250% profit

A Dermal Filler treatment

  • A syringe of dermal fillers depending on the grade would cost aesthetic doctors between £50 and £130
  • Depending on your area and expertise, aesthetic doctors could charge £200-£300 per syringe
  • A potential 500% profit

Our expert injectors will provide a one-on-one injection guidance to help you master distinct and creative techniques to achieve optimal aesthetic results in non surgical treatments.

Cosmetic Courses also offers the Level 7 Qualification in Injectables for Aesthetic Medicine to doctors. This is a Ofqual regulated postgraduate level qualification in injectables and is a great option for doctors considering a career in aesthetic medicine. This Level 7 qualification was introduced following the PIP breast implant in 2012. This, accompanied by the rapid growth of the non surgical aesthetic industry, resulted in a process where the Department of Health reviewed and advised the regulatory framework in the cosmetic industry. Up until this point, surgical cosmetic treatments have been highly unregulated and so this process made recommendations on accreditation, qualifications and course delivery. The Ofqual regulated Level 7 Qualification is a necessary movement towards a more standardised level of training for doctors considering a career in non surgical aesthetic medicine.

Health Education England has suggested that an appropriate level of training for Botox and Dermal Filler treatments is at a Level 7. Therefore if you have completed your undergraduate degree in a medical discipline and are currently registered with either the GMC, GDC or NMC you are able to attend a Level 7 postgraduate course in Botox and Dermal Filler treatments.

The Level 7 certificate involves a combination of online learning modules, observation sessions, a substantial amount of time taking part in practical hands-on teaching, mentoring sessions and assessments. This will consist of 277 hours of learning. During the qualification, you will cover the following 8 units:

  • Principles of History, Ethics and Law in Aesthetic Medicine
  • Principles of Treatment in non surgical Aesthetic Medicine
  • Principles of Cosmetic Psychology in non surgical Aesthetic Medicine
  • Principles of Dermatology in non surgical Aesthetic Medicine
  • Principles of Botulinum Toxin Use in non surgical Aesthetic Medicine
  • Practice of Botulinum Toxin Use in non surgical Aesthetic Medicine
  • Principles of Dermal Filler Use in Aesthetic Medicine
  • Practice of Dermal Filler User in Aesthetic Medicine

These units have been recommended to provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills to practice the following procedures independently:

  • The use of Botulinum Toxin to treat glabellar, frontalis and crow’s feet
  • The use of Botulinum Toxin to treat bunny lines
  • The use of Dermal Fillers to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, oral commissures, vermillion border, lip body and basic cheek augmentation

Although the Department of Health strongly support the recommendations that have been provided by HEE, the Level 7 qualification is not a mandatory requirement to start practising in facial aesthetics. However, independent organisations such as the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) are working towards achieving an industry standard whereby obtaining a Level 7 qualification is seen as the ‘norm’ for any medical professional considering an aesthetic career. To get to this point all key stakeholders, insurance providers as well as the general public will need to see holding a Level 7 qualification as a minimum requirement for providing these non-surgical treatments. How successful these independent organisations will be at reaching these industry standards remains unknown.

Since it is not mandatory to complete the Level 7 qualification, you can just do a Foundation Course in Botox and Dermal Filler and still practice. Our Foundation Botox and Dermal Filler course is an appropriate course to undertake to get your started in the aesthetic industry. In fact the Foundation Course in Botox and Dermal Fillers makes up part of the Level 7 Qualification that we offer here at Cosmetic Courses. Each of our training courses provides you with the fundamental knowledge, practical skills and business acumen to become a successful aesthetic practitioner. If you are considering a career in aesthetic medicine you have 2 options:

  • Complete individual training courses which can later be combined to achieve credits towards your qualification in the future, should you feel the need to obtain one

If you have a patient who you are unsure how best to treat, you can contact our clinical team and we can advise you on the best course of treatment, even if it’s years after your initial training.

All training programmes at Cosmetic courses are managed by our Clinical Director Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Dr Adrian Richards. Mr Richards was named as one of the worlds Top 100 Most Influential Cosmetic Doctors by international cosmetic surgery website RealSelf in 2014. He was also named ‘The Botox Expert’ in the Evening Standard‘s ‘Harley Street Heroes’ and is the author of best-selling textbook ‘Keynotes on Plastic Surgery’. This continued involvement in both the surgical and non surgical cosmetic industry allows Mr Richards to produce up-to-date doctors Botox training course programmes of the highest quality.

Mr Richards works with a handpicked team of expert aesthetic trainers, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, ENT Surgeons, Aesthetic Doctors, Dentists and Nurses who have all excelled in their respective fields and have a combined experience of 113 years in the industry. Each of these trainers are experts in their own discipling, enabling you the highest quality of teaching that cannot be met by any other training provider in this field.

We understand that as medical professionals and those coming from the NHS, you have a considerable amount of mandatory online training that you have to complete for your appraisals and re-validation. We don’t want you to have to sit through hours of mundane theory which in effect may not aid your success as an aesthetic practitioner. We have, therefore, created our own bespoke learning management system in partnership with the experts at Blank Canvas to deliver a truly unique learning experience. Gone are the days of endless papers, articles and words on the page, we have developed our system to meet a range of learning types with a combination of written, audio, visual and games to test your knowledge in a fun and inspiring way. All of our doctors Botox training courses are also recognised by the leading aesthetic insurance and pharmaceutical companies whilst also working with HEE.

Future prospects following Botox and Fillers training

Many of the doctors that have previously attended our training courses for doctors now work exclusively in the Botox and Dermal Fillers medical aesthetics industry and have set up highly successful and profitable aesthetic clinics. Other doctors have combined a successful cosmetic career with their normal positions in the medical aesthetics industry. Indeed, many techniques learnt on our Botox courses can be integrated into doctors everyday practices. Botulinum toxin can successfully treat a range of medical conditions, examples include:

  • ENT maxillofacial surgeons who use Botox techniques to treat conditions like Freys syndrome and spasm of the masseter muscle
  • Doctors treating Hyperhidrosis of the face, scalp and axillary (armpit) areas
  • Migraine headache specialists

Botox training for doctors with Cosmetic Courses enables a career in aesthetic medicine to be combined with your previous role. Past doctors who have attended our training courses, have expressed the benefits of this, for example, providing a great variety in their weekly work routine, leading to greater job satisfaction and quality of life.

Alternatively, numerous doctors who have attended out Botox and Fillers training courses have gone on to become an Aesthetic Trainer themselves. Cosmetic Courses are proud that a number of previous delegates have returned to train for us on our courses. Since training with us, we feel that they have gained sufficient expertise and experience within the medical aesthetics industry to now become trainers themselves in Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Filler treatments. Please see below the success story of previous delegates who have transitioned into facial aesthetics following their training with us .

Dr Fiona Durban

My name is Dr Fiona Durban, I work as an Aesthetic Practitioner for Aurora Skin Clinics and I’m also a trainer for Cosmetic Courses. I started my career in facial aesthetics by myself attending a Cosmetic Courses Foundation level course which stimulated my interest in facial aesthetics. My reasons for moving from General Practice into the area was because I wanted a career that I felt would be more flexible, where I could spend more time with each patient and also where it was more practical based and aesthetics fulfilled all of these things.

So I went on to train with Cosmetic Courses in an advanced course. I trained in Dermaroller, Chemical Peels as well as lots of one-to-one session with Cosmetic Courses and then went to work regular sessions for Aurora Clinics and now I feel as if I’ve come full circle because I’m training too. So if this is something that you feel would interest you, either to add to your current practice or to move into facial aesthetics completely, then please contact Cosmetic Courses.

Dr Sophie Shotter

I’m a medically qualified doctor with a background in anaesthetics in the NHS. When I first thought about aesthetics training, I spoke to a friend who was already qualified, and he highly recommended Cosmetic Courses. It’s the only course run by a Plastic Surgeon, and has a brilliant reputation. In a medical industry where training is notoriously variable, that assured me I’d be in the best place. I started off with the Foundation Botox and Fillers Course, and walked away feeling confident about Botox, but wanting to learn a little more about fillers. I booked some more one-to-one training to learn more advanced procedures – lip fillers, cheek fillers, and advanced Botox. I then trained up in Microsclerotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, Dermaroller and Microdermabrasio and Peels. I’ve trained with most members of the team and found everyone so friendly, helpful and supportive. The quality of the training was second to none. The personalised advice I got and also bits and bobs about business advice were really great. I’ve already highly recommended Cosmetic Courses to several colleagues and friends. I wouldn’t send them anywhere else. The quality of training I’ve received is great and I don’t think is matched elsewhere in the aesthetics industry. When it comes to choosing your provider, make sure you look at who has designed the training programme. How well established are they? Who are their trainers, and what’s their reputation?

For me, the benefits of moving into aesthetics have been enormous. My work-life balance is much healthier. I work the hours I choose to work, I have time for family and friends, and if I have to make an appointment to see my GP, I don’t struggle to do that any more. I’m a much happier person as a result. The earning potential within aesthetics is massive – much better than within the NHS for me. I am now running my own clinic in Kent and although I’m still in the early stages of my business development, that is really, really exciting. I love my job – I don’t dread Monday mornings any more, and that’s an amazing feeling!

Dr Kalpna Pindolia

I am a registered Doctor working in Emergency Medicine. Alongside this I am now a mobile Aesthetic Doctor for my own clinic; Envisage Aesthetics. I decided to move into facial aesthetics because my main aim was to have a better work-life balance and I have always wanted to establish and maintain my own independent business. I knew facial aesthetics would provide me with both of these things. I decided to train with Cosmetic Courses because they had glowing testimonials and the personal interactions with their caring team were amazing. They offer high quality training with experienced practitioners within the context of ongoing support with your career progression. It was excellent value for money. My training with Cosmetic Courses was simply excellent. I had an experienced and approachable practitioner, in a dedicated clinic environment, with live models provided by Cosmetic Courses for clinical practice.

One area of my aesthetic work that I enjoy is practising high standards of communication in a privately-led environment for the process of informed consent. This, as well as the artistry involved which complements the clinical skills required for the process of getting achievable results. I also like establishing effective professional relationships with clients in the long term in order to address their needs over time. Attending training for doctors in Botox and Dermal Fillers is a fantastic opportunity to achieve a work-life balance whilst still using your clinical expertise – including communication skills, practical techniques and running your own business. It is not an easy option, but very rewarding if you are willing to put in the time, effort and enthusiasm.

The medical aesthetics industry is continuously evolving and growing, with new minimally invasive procedures being discovered and more awareness of non-surgical treatments becoming more widespread. The demand for aesthetic treatments is also continuously increasing, with 90% of all cosmetic treatments in the UK now being surgical. This makes now a great time for delegates to take the next step and begin their practice and invest in the new skills with the above training courses and acquiring new skills with our expert team which will be the foundation upon which you build your success as an aesthetic doctor. If you are a doctor interesting in beginning your career as an aesthetic doctor, Cosmetic Courses is a great option for you. Take the next step and join the 4,000 doctors and other medical professionals we have already trained, to administer safe, effective treatments to their patients – 72% of whom came back for more training.
