Whether planned or not the majority of us seem to have accepted this challenge. Like myself many others we’ve spoken to have said I hopecosmetic courses no make up challenge my skin will be so much brighter, smoother and healthier without applying make up every day but why has this not happened? Instead for many of us our skin has become more oily and prone to breakouts even though we are putting less on it. With more time on our hands we appear to be more conscious than ever about the appearance of our skin and how to improve it. Here are a few tips that we think could help solve some of these unanswered questions.

  1. Change in routine – it’s thought that the vast change in out current lifestyles, stress implications and different sleep patterns are all playing a part on the appearance of our skin. It is said that a lack of skin decreases the moisture levels and PH of our skin resulting in a dull complexion and an increase in skin concerns.
  2. More snacks and alcohol – being at home for many of us is meaning more sugary snacks and alcohol are being consumed than we are used to in our normal daily lives. Lots of sugar can lead to inflammation in the body which can aggravate skin conditions we may already suffer with.
  3. Exercise – many of us are trying to stay healthy and exercise at home whilst on quarantine. It is important to thoroughly cleanse your skin and the area you are exercising in or any equipment you are using after exercise to reduce the build up of bacteria caused by the sweat. This build up of bacteria will block pores and increase breakouts.
  4. Hair – yes, along with no make up many of us are also reducing the amount we are washing our hair. Whilst this is good to cut down the products and heat we are using we need to be mindful not to let the hair follicles become too oily and this will transfer onto our skin. If we think how many times we play with our hair in a day this oil will transfer onto our hands and linen which will also end up on our skin.
  5. Pillows – along with our new quarantined lifestyle for a lot of people it is fair to say we are spending more time in bed or on the sofa during the day. This again increases the bacteria build up so it is important to wash and air these items more frequently than you usually would. Remember a clean pillow = cleaner skin.
  6. SPF – being in a world of anti ageing and skin health we cannot stress enough the importance of protecting your skin from UV and UVA damage. With the warmer months on the way it is vital to protect your skin. Skin conditions such as pigmentation and rosacea can be hugely improved with the use of a good daily SPF 50.

Whilst we carry on in a world very different to what we have known before it is vital that feeling good about your skin can really help to make us more positive and happy.
